Inspiration

I knew I wanted to focus on childhood, and particularly, imagination. A lot of people disregard childhood imagination when really it is one of the most beautiful tools at our disposal.

My favorite movie is Alice in Wonderland, partially because of the craziness of the film, but also because it feels like a dream come to life. I wanted to connect Alice in Wonderland to my themes of imagination and childhood.

I took photos from my own childhood as a source of inspiration and to spark my own nostalgia when working on the project. I chose photos that I felt represented my core themes--imagination, creativity, innocence, and nostalgia-- and used those as a source of inspiration for my drawing.

For the drawing, I loved the idea of drawing on books, once again incorporating my themes in different ways. Books are a huge source of imagination for children as well as adults, and the drawings are my own creativity reflecting onto those pages.
